Philadelphia, PA — The streets of Philadelphia will come alive with Greek pride and tradition as the 2025 Philadelphia Greek Independence Day Parade takes place on Sunday, April 6, 2025, along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Hosted by the Federation of Hellenic-American Societies of Philadelphia and Greater Delaware Valley, this annual event commemorates the Greek Revolution of 1821 and celebrates the rich history and cultural contributions of the Greek-American community.
Since its inception in 1962, the parade has served as a symbol of freedom, unity, and heritage, bringing together communities from across the region. Open to all and free to attend, the event offers a unique opportunity to experience Greek traditions, music, and pageantry while fostering appreciation for Hellenic culture.
A Day of Celebration
The festivities begin with a Doxology service at 10:00 AM at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral (156 South 8th Street, Philadelphia), where the community will gather to honor Greece’s history and those who fought for its independence. Attendees are encouraged to dress in business attire for this solemn and meaningful service.
At 1:00 PM, marching groups and floats will assemble along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in preparation for the main event.
At 2:00 PM, the parade officially steps off from 22nd Street, making its way toward 18th Street, where grandstands will offer the best views of the vibrant processions. The parade will feature:
- Traditional Greek music and dance
- Colorful floats representing Greek culture and history
- A ceremonial march by the Presidential Guard of Greece (Evzones)
- Local schools, organizations, and community groups showcasing their Hellenic pride
Greek food vendors will be stationed near the grandstands, offering a taste of authentic Greek cuisine throughout the event.
Post-Parade Celebrations
