The Hellenic American Women’s Council (HAWC) will host a virtual discussion exploring the ethical and human dimensions of artificial intelligence through the lens of ancient Greek philosophy.
Titled “From Socrates to Superintelligence,” the online event will take place on Saturday, February 28, 2026, and feature George Chatzivasileiou, a Greek political philosopher and author whose work bridges classical thought and contemporary technology.
The discussion will be held via Zoom and is open to the public.
Philosophy Meets Artificial Intelligence
Rather than focusing on technical aspects of AI, the conversation will examine how ideas from Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle can help frame today’s debates about intelligent technology, ethics, and human responsibility.
At the center of the discussion is Dr. Chatzivasileiou’s award-winning book, Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence – A Journey into the Future, which explores how ancient philosophical concepts can inform modern questions about democracy, autonomy, and what it means to be human in an age of rapidly advancing technology.
The book has been recognized as Best Non-Fiction Book by Athens Voice and is currently taught at multiple universities in Greece.
About the Speaker
Dr. Chatzivasileiou holds a Ph.D. in the Philosophy of Technology and a master’s degree in Political Philosophy from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He has served as chief editor of Antilogos (Eurasia), contributed to major Greek newspapers including To Vima and Ta Nea, and created the Animated Philosophers series for Greek public television ERT.
His work is widely noted for making complex philosophical ideas approachable to broad audiences while engaging with urgent social and technological issues.
