Upper Darby, PA – St. Demetrios was the scene of the GOYA league championships this past weekend. On Sunday afternoon the returning champs Holy Trinity (Egg Harbor – Girls) and Annunciation (Elkins Park – Boys) came in and reclaimed their positions as the best in the league. For Annunciation, it was the third victory in a row as champs. Experience and great coaching played key roles in both victories.
Holy Trinity although coming in as the second seed and falling behind early, followed their game plan strategy. They never lost momentum and confidently marched by St. Thomas. Final score: Holy Trinity 35, St. Thomas 29. Annunciation, reiterated their claim as a dynasty by attacking and pressuring Holy Trinity. Last year these two teams met up in what was a closer match. But this year, they permanently made it known that they will be regarded as one of the best teams of their era with this well earned championship. Final score: Annunciation 61, Holy Trinity 48.
