Upper Darby, PA – Greek-owned Leandros Pizza on 69th Street had a surprise visit on Wednesday from Daniel Mulhall, the Ambassador of Ireland to the United States. The Ambassador was given a short historical description of the community and its Greektown past from Joanne Pallas, a lifelong resident of Upper Darby.

Joanne Pallas and her husband Dimitri, owners and operators of Leandros Pizza, welcomed Ambassador Mulhall and his extended entourage. They stopped at several Upper Darby locations, including the Tower Theatre, where the Van Gogh Immersion Experience is currently on tour.

Pallas (with her husband along her side) took a moment for a photo op with Mulhall. At the same time, Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon expressed great gratitude to the Pallas’ for the generous support of Upper Darby’s police, administration, and community.

In June of last year, the riots in Philadelphia made their way into Upper Darby’s 69th street business district. Looters damaged many stores, and the National Guard was activated to come in and secure the neighborhood business’. Leandros Pizza kept the police and the National Guard fed daily with their famous pizza, which has since given them much recognition for their efforts to support and preserve the community.
