On Holy Thursday evening, the parish of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Upper Darby welcomed His Eminence Metropolitan Apostolos of New Jersey for the Service of the Twelve Passion Gospels. The visit marked a deeply meaningful moment for the community, offering spiritual grounding during one of the most solemn services of Holy Week.

The service began at 6:30 p.m. and drew a large congregation, gathered in quiet anticipation for the reading of the Twelve Gospels—narratives recounting Christ’s suffering and crucifixion. Presiding over the service, Metropolitan Apostolos brought a sense of calm and spiritual focus to the evening. His presence reinforced the sacredness of the occasion and strengthened the connection between the local faithful and their spiritual leadership.

St. Demetrios, a longstanding center of Orthodox life in the Delaware Valley, continues to preserve and nurture the liturgical and cultural traditions of the Church. The Archpastoral visit underscored the enduring relationship between the parish and the Metropolis of New Jersey, rooted in shared faith and pastoral care.

For many in attendance, the evening served not only as a commemoration of Christ’s Passion but also as a moment of unity—a gathering under the Cross in prayer, reflection, and hope.
