Elkins Park, PA – Change is good and exciting. At Annunciation Greek Orthodox church, it’s welcomed as well. New students, new teachers and a new direction are being implemented by the oldest Greek Language and Culture School in Philadelphia, which was founded in 1901. On Tuesday, the Greek school opened it’s doors for the 2014-2015 year.
Annunciations Greek school added a new teacher from Greece and several new students increasing their population by nearly 40%. John Avgiris who shares a long history in education and part of the Philadelphia community has taken the reins as Principal. Using benchmark techniques fromt the academic industry, his philosophy is simple. It’s really all about sharing, says Avgiris. “I want to get together with other school leaders and share what works” says Avgiris. Phone calls to other churches and educational leaders are being made on behalf of the idea of sharing information.
An adult class has also been added to the Greek school. There are still open spaces available for those interested. Classes are held on Tuesday’s from 5-7 pm, and Fridays, from 5-6:30 pm.
