Philadelphia’s St. George Greek Orthodox Community Observes Good Friday

Philadelphia, PA – St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Philadelphia was packed last night. Good Friday was observed by Orthodox communities worldwide. In Philadelphia, the St. George community marked the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary on this spring evening with its annual tradition of the Epitafio being carried down 8th street.

The procession led them around the block and back into the church in single file beneath the Epitafio. There, they were greeted by Father Costa, who performed the sign of the cross and kissed the Bible Father Costa held. St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral’s Easter services continue all week and conclude on Sunday morning.
