December 22, 2012. Philadelphia. The Pontian chapter “Akritai” of Philadelphia celebrated the Christmas season with caroling around the Delaware Valley and a Christmas party at their club house this past weekend.

On Friday evening, the Dance troupe members and their family and friends came out to the club house. They danced and sang carols following dinner and receiving presents.

Christmas carolers from the Pan Macedonian Association of Philadelphia and the Aristotele Academy also stopped by bringing in the Christmas spirit.

On Saturday and Sunday, the “Akritai” accompanied by Lyra player and singer Yorgos Sofianidis of Greece made their way around the Delaware Valley to various homes, businesses and churches singing Pontian carols. Dance director Effie Economou of the Akritai, said that each year the tour continues to grow and more members are joining the “Akritai” dance troup.

The Philadelphia Pontian chapter “Akritai” has grown by some 30%-40% percent the last 2 years and continues to be one of the larger recognized organizations inside the Greek community.
