Philadelphia, PA – On Friday evening, St. George Greek orthodox cathedral was the scene of a bid ‘n’ buy event. Hosted by the Ay Myrophori Philoptochos, the venture brought in some 200 Greek women from around the Delaware Valley for an evening of fun, food and fabulous prizes. Titled “A Night in the Islands”, the long awaited gathering had been dormant for ten years.
With much pride, members of the church greeted their guests at the door and guided them through several rows of prizes that awaited them. From Mikasa crystal picture frames to a three piece suitcase set and everything in between, tickets were dropped into plastic containers adjacent to the raffle prizes.
Following a roasted chicken dinner, the games began, but not before Father Ambrose gave a prayer to start the evening. “This social gathering is primarily about fellowship and we are very happy to see so many people here today participating. Many Christians and nonchristians are dependent on this parish and the success of this and events like this”. Father Ambrose added, “We are grateful for all those that came and for the work of our parishioners”.
