Cherry Hill, NJ. Families gathered yesterday to watch the next generation of Hellenes perform songs of patriotism in honor of Greek Independence.
The Greek school students of St. Thomas, under the guidance of their teachers, sang, danced to traditional music from across Greece, and recited poetry to mark the 193rd anniversary of independence from Ottoman rule.
The annual celebration served as the opening event for Greek Independence Day weekend, which continued with the parade on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and festivities at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Upper Darby.
