December 18, 2012 – This past week, friends and fans of the Greek soccer team Panathinaikos gathered at Nova Grill in Villanova, PA. Smiling faces and shamrocks filled the room as hugs were exchanged and lively conversations broke out among excited supporters. The idea of creating a Philadelphia-based fan club now seems closer to becoming a reality.
Alexander Kitroeff, who appears to be leading the unofficial group, shared a tweet from Panathinaikos president Yiannis Alafouzos, sent that same day:

The meeting lasted nearly two hours, with discussions focused on the team’s future, its history, and potential membership. The atmosphere was reminiscent of a traditional Greek coffeehouse. “The team needs support and fans to step forward and show their solidarity,” said Costa Xinos, Nova Grill owner and a key figure in organizing the fan club.
Panathinaikos, based in Athens, is the oldest organized soccer club in Greece and one of its most successful. However, recent economic challenges have placed the team in financial crisis. Kitroeff spoke about the importance of supporting Greek soccer and helping Panathinaikos during this difficult period.
