The 99th AHEPA Family Supreme Convention in Athens continued with two major events on Tuesday evening, July 27, 2021.
AHEPA presented the President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou with the Order’s highest honor, the AHEPA Socrates Award, and Supreme President George G. Horiates presented the award at the Presidential Mansion.
In her remarks, President Sakellaropoulou reflected on AHEPA’s near 100-year history:
“During all this time, it has grown astoundingly, becoming a role model, both within American society and beyond, with remarkable community service through inspirational projects, while never forgetting the motherland.”
Separately, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation venue was the site for an “AHEPA Greek Night” event. Supreme Treasurer Savas Tsivicos emceed the event’s short program that included three award presentations.
First, AHEPA honored Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias with the AHEPA Pericles Award. On behalf of Foreign Minister Dendias, Ambassador of Greece to the United States, Alexandra Papadopoulou, accepted the award from Supreme President Horiates. The ambassador expressed appreciation for the mission and work of AHEPA.
AHEPA also recognized the governor of the Region of Attica, George Patoulis, for his contributions to helping make the event held at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation a memorable success.
Finally, AHEPA presented its Lifetime Achievement Award to Ahepan Craig Clawson of Omaha, Nebraska, who serves as the organization’s chairman of the Board of Auditors. It is a position in which Clawson has served selflessly for decades, which also has included assistance to the Daughters of Penelope. The honor moved Clawson.
