Constantinos Sioutis passed away peacefully on February 6, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.

Costa was born on February 8, 1931, in the small village of Kerasohori (Fatiri), located in Thesprotia, Greece. Being the oldest of 6 children of Dimitrios and Angeliki Sioutis, he left the village at the age of 10 to work with his father in Athens and support his family. There they sold glassware to the ever-growing population migrating to the capital city. Costa worked hard and saved his money. Against his father’s wishes, he bought a plot of land which would eventually help his siblings grow their business and families.

At the age of 19, Costa was given the opportunity to migrate to the United States. His great uncle and aunt sponsored him and took him in.

While visiting Worcester, Massachusetts, for a family wedding, Costa met the love of his life, Figalia Malitas. She was the daughter of Haralambos and Konstantina Malitas, and she was very close with her five brothers. Kosta and Figalia married, and very quickly after, her whole family moved to Philadelphia to be near her.

Once in Philly, the Malitas brothers and Costa opened their first Pizza shop, New England Pizza, in Upper Darby. This was the first of many pizza shops that are now on every corner serving the so-called “Greek Pizza.” They quickly grew their business and locations and realized they needed to jump into Food Distribution, and thus New England Foods was born. Their business has served the Greek community as well as many others for the last 60 years.

Costa and Figalia were also growing their family during these years. They were blessed with Anita, Eleni, and Jimmy. Costa was very involved with his beloved St. Demetrios. He served for years on the parish council in many roles, including president. He was one of the founding members who helped create the St. Demetrios festival, which is still a yearly event.

He was instrumental in creating a society for all those in the US from his beloved village of Kerasohori.

After moving to Broomall, Costa became a St. Luke’s parish member.

In his latest years, Costa could be found in his garden, listening to his beloved epirotika tragoudia and doting on his grandchildren. He was thrilled beyond words to be surrounded by his nine great-grandchildren who adored their big Pappou. When surrounded by his family, his smile was evidence of what was important in his life.

Costa is survived by his wife, Figalia, his children, Anita (Christos), Eleni (Thanasi), and Dimitri (Voula). His grandchildren Paraskevi (Alekos), Leah (Brendon), Panagiotis (Vicky), Alexis (Ellie), Christina (Paul), Deena, Victoria, Dean, and Gia, and his nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Paraskevi, Georgios, Athina, and Giannis, and his nine godchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dimitris and Angeliki, his sister Basiliki, his in-laws, Haralambos and Konstantina, and his brother-in-law, Theofilos and Antonis.

Friends and family are welcome to attend his viewing Thursday, February 10, 2022, 12:00 -1:00 pm at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm. Internment shall be at St. Peter and Paul’s Cemetery.
