Upper Darby, PA – On Sunday, January 8, 2022, at 2:00 pm, St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church will host the film – In Support of Liberty, Philadelphia, and The Greek War of Independence.
The film introduces the little-known history of Philadelphia’s support and ties to the Greek War of Independence. It highlights how Phil- Hellenes in America embraced and echoed Greek values during that period. The film also reveals the unique relationship between the Greek-American community of Philadelphia and those Phil-Hellenes.
Historian Alexander Kitroeff narrates the documentary, scored by Philadelphia’s own Adam Goldman of Audiomind Inc. Filmed over two years in and around Philadelphia; the film utilizes animation, reenactments, and aerial footage. It also features members of the Greek-American community of Philadelphia.
The film was written, directed, and produced by award-winning photographer and filmmaker Eleftherios Kostans. Since its release in September of 2022, the film has won 12 film festival awards in 5 categories, including best documentary short and best editing.
