Yesterday, the Evangelismos of Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church in Philadelphia solemnly observed Great Thursday. The mournful tolling of bells marked the beginning of services commemorating the Divine Drama of the Crucifixion. The live video feed of the services was sponsored by the Epirotes Society of Philadelphia “Omonia.”

The parish community kept a reverent vigil, meditating on Christ’s immense sacrifice and eagerly awaiting the miracle of His Resurrection yet to come. Despite the somber mood, there was a palpable sense of hope and anticipation for the joyous occasion of Great Sunday.

This ancient ceremony allows the faithful to vividly experience and internalize the climactic events of the Passion. Evangelismos followed the traditions upheld for centuries, connecting the parish to the universal Church across time.
