Antigoni Gakis (née Ourdas), age 92, began her journey into God’s Kingdom on the early morning of November 9, 2024, surrounded by her daughter and granddaughters.

Born to the late Paraskeva and Dimitra Ourdas in Edessa, Greece, Antigoni grew up with her siblings, the late Aikaterini (Koukas) and Christos Ourdas.

Antigoni later married the love of her life, Aristokratis Gakis, in Thessaloniki, Greece, where they welcomed their two daughters: Katherine (Karapalides) and the late Dimitra (Seherlis). The family eventually emigrated to the United States, settling in Upper Darby, PA, where they built a home filled with love, happiness, and memorable challenges.

While raising her children, Antigoni dedicated herself to their education and success. Her daughter Kathy recalls how her mother lovingly insisted on perfection:
“Mom made sure my alphabet looked just like the teacher’s paper when I was six. I had to write it over and over until it was just right, all on top of the little suitcase she bought in Greece for our trip to America. Mom, thank you for pushing me to do it right.”

Antigoni was happiest when surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren, with whom she shared a close bond. In her later years, she treasured her time with her daughter Kathy, whether enjoying coffee together, talking, or embarking on long outings. These moments will remain cherished memories for her loved ones.

Despite life’s many challenges, Antigoni exemplified strength, resilience, and leadership. Her warm, kind, and generous spirit shone through in all she did. Her legacy of love and determination will be remembered and celebrated forever.

Antigoni is preceded in joining the Lord by her parents, Paraskeva and Dimitra Ourdas; her husband, Aristokratis Gakis; her daughter, Dimitra (Seherlis); her sister, Aikaterini (Koukas); and her nephew, Dimitrios Koukas.

She is survived by her daughter, Katherine (Karapalides); her brother, Christos Ourdas; her grandchildren Christina (James Albertini), Demetra Karapalides, and Konstantinos Seherlis; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
