What can Aristotle teach us about living well in today’s world? That question is at the heart of an online talk hosted by the Hellenic American Women’s Council (HAWC) on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 10 AM Central.
HAWC, founded in 1993, is a nationwide, nonpartisan network that brings together women of Hellenic descent. Its programs highlight leadership, preserve cultural heritage, and connect generations of Greek Americans. Through conferences, seminars, and cultural events, HAWC creates opportunities to draw on Greek heritage while addressing the challenges of modern life.
The featured speaker will be architect and author Fenia Tsanaka, presenting “Renovating My Life, with Aristotle as My Architect.” Drawing on her background in architecture, Tsanaka explains how the choices we make in life resemble the design of a house: the same foundations can support very different outcomes, depending on the plan we follow.
Her book Renovating My Life with Aristotle as an Architect (Armos Publications, 2023) develops this idea further, showing how Aristotle’s guidance on purpose, balance, and practical wisdom can serve as a compass for personal growth. In her talk, she will focus on three areas: finding meaning in daily routines by keeping purpose in mind, handling emotions and relationships with greater balance, and making better decisions by pausing to reflect on long-term well-being.
For Tsanaka, Aristotle’s thought is not distant or abstract. It offers practical wisdom that can help us shape our lives with more clarity and direction. As she writes in her book, the way we design our days is no less important than the way an architect designs a building; both shape the strength and beauty of what stands in the end.
The program is part of HAWC’s mission to connect Greek heritage with contemporary conversations and to highlight the contributions of Hellenic American women.
