Antigone G. Sotos, 88, of West Lawn, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was predeceased in 2014 by her beloved husband, Lambros, with whom she shared 52 years of marriage.
Born on December 14, 1936, in Neochori, Greece, Antigone was the daughter of the late Ioannis and Fani Giannatselis. She immigrated to the United States in 1963, beginning a new chapter that blended hard work, family, and the Greek traditions she carried proudly throughout her life.
Antigone worked as a seamstress for Letisse, Inc., makers of fine leather handbags, from 1963 to 1986. She continued her craft with Juliette Originals in Reading and Narrow Fabrics in West Reading until her retirement in 2002. Her skill, patience, and eye for detail were known and respected by those who worked alongside her.
Her Greek heritage and faith were central to her life. She was a devoted member of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Reading and previously a member of St. Matthew’s Greek Orthodox Church. Her connection to the church and the community brought her great joy.
Antigone’s happiest moments were at home with her children and grandchildren. She loved cooking and baking, and her kitchen always seemed to come alive on weekends. Her grandchildren especially remember visiting Yiayia and being met with what felt like an entire feast, prepared with love and offered with a smile. Feeding others was her way of showing care, and she shared that love generously.
She is survived by her children: George L., companion of Kelly Gahan, of Doylestown; Fani L., wife of James Polyak, of Wyomissing; and Eleni L., of San Rafael, California. She also leaves behind five grandchildren: Samantha, Evan, Nicholas, Alexia, and Ajay. Antigone is survived by her sister, Diamanto (Rovola), of Lithovounia, Greece; her brother, Antonios, of Athens; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Dimitri, and her sisters Sophia (Georgiopoulos), Katina (Kastrantas), and Georgia.
Services will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 1001 East Wyomissing Blvd., Reading. Interment will follow at Charles Evans Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 10 to 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sts. Constantine and Helen Church.
