Nicholas C. Pappas passed away peacefully on December 12, 2025, in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, surrounded by his family.
Born on January 2, 1927, in the village of Demati, Ioannina, Greece, Nicholas grew up during some of the most difficult years of the country’s modern history. His childhood was shaped by the Second World War, the Greek Civil War, and widespread hardship, experiences that instilled in him a deep sense of resilience, pride, and perseverance.
After completing high school in Ioannina, Nicholas immigrated to the United States to reunite with his father. Soon after, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Korean War, where he attained the rank of sergeant.
Following his military service, Nicholas married his beloved wife, Fani. Together they raised three sons and built a life rooted in family, faith, and hard work. For many years, he was the owner and operator of the Broadway Restaurant on North Broad Street in Philadelphia, a place many in the Greek-American community remember well.
Nicholas was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He took great pride in his family and in the life he built after coming to America. He was preceded in death by his wife, Fani, and his son, Dean.
He is survived by his sons Spirodon (Nicole) and George (Maria), his grandchildren Nicholas (Leah), Niko (Lauren), and John (Allie), and his ten great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Monday, December 22, 2025, at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 256 S. 8th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107. Viewing will be followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Fernwood Cemetery, 6501 Baltimore Avenue, Lansdowne, PA 19050.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Nicholas’s name be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
