March 12, 2013. Broomall,Pa.- The parish members and friends of St. Luke Greek Orthodox church attended and hosted the 1st annual “Health Fair” for it’s members this past week. More than 25 venders from across the Delaware Valley covering a wide variety of topics like: Domestic Abuse, Emergency Trauma Burn services, Hospice care and Living Wills, were all part of the program that was available for attendees to explore and learn more about.
Bessie Zantopoulos and Jeanie Karalis, two members of St. Lukes and coordinators of the event, expresses great concern for the Greek community’s needs to get a living will done and become educated about hospice care. “Greek people are very uninformed and lack a significant effort in this area,” said Zantopoulos. It’s important to get a will done and many people are loosing value income by not doing so.” She went on to say that cultural challenges are responsible for this and it continues to affect the next generation as well.
The Health Fair forum was a free and open event to the community that gave people a great deal of information and advice about growing needs for seniors as they age. “Were on the journey with you and were here to help”, said Linda Gosser of Crozer Keyston Health service. Grosser talked about hospice care to the crowed of St. Lukes attendees and was one of the many speakers that lectured about growing health care needs.
