Greek singer Erini will present Fos: An Asia Minor Story at The Rotunda in Philadelphia on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at 7 p.m. The free event combines a documentary screening and live music exploring her family’s history and the experiences of Greek refugees from Asia Minor.
Raised in Crete, Erini Tornesaki is the great-granddaughter of refugees displaced from Smyrna in 1922. Her documentary, An Asia Minor Story, follows her search for her family’s past, including a journey to her ancestral village and the discovery of a relative’s former home near Izmir, more than a century after her great-grandparents were forced to leave.
The film is accompanied by songs from her 2024 debut album, Fos (Light), which draws on the traditional music of Asia Minor. Live performances, including collaborations with local musicians, are woven into the screening.
Now based in New York, Erini is an assistant professor at Berklee College of Music. She previously toured with Cirque du Soleil as a vocalist from 2014 to 2017.
The Philadelphia program is organized by four local groups: the Hellenic University Club of Philadelphia, the Greek American Heritage Society of Philadelphia, Pan-Macedonian Youth of Philadelphia, and Politistikos Syllogos Philadelphias.
At 8:30 p.m., instructors from Politistikos Syllogos Philadelphias, including Dr. Christos Papakostas, will lead a public Greek dance lesson. The workshop will feature traditional music from Epirus and Northern Greece, with songs reflecting experiences of migration, separation, and longing.
The event takes place at The Rotunda, 4014 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104. Admission is free, but organizers encourage attendees to register in advance to guarantee entry.
Additional information is available on the Hellenic University Club’s event page.
Please confirm event details with the organizers before attending, as dates, times, locations, and registration information may change.
