PGBL Hosts Inaugural Adult Summer Basketball Tournament

The Philadelphia Greek Basketball League (PGBL) hosted its first-ever adult summer basketball tournament this past weekend, marking an exciting new milestone for the league and the local Greek-American community.

For over six years, the PGBL has been a staple in the Delaware Valley, bringing together Greek men over the age of 18 to compete, connect, and celebrate their shared heritage. During the regular season, the league meets twice a week at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Upper Darby, PA — offering not just competitive basketball, but a vibrant space for fellowship and cultural connection.

This new summer event, held at Renegades Gym in Hatboro, was organized by league co-founder Bill Zonios and his fellow commissioners. It brought together more than 16 teams from across the region for a full weekend of spirited competition and community building.

The tournament drew players, families, and fans alike, reinforcing the league’s mission to unite the Greek-American community through sports and shared tradition — even in the off-season.
