Upper Darby, PA – The American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) held its 35th annual track meet this past Sunday at Upper Darby High School.
Four church community teams took part: St. George of Media, St. Luke of Broomall, St. Sophia of Valley Forge and St. Demetrios of Upper Darby. Family members and friends watched from the stands and sidelines and supported their teams. Events included the high jump, shot put and other track and field competitions. A concession stand operated behind the bleachers throughout the day.
The Thermopylae Chapter 445 of Delaware County organizes the meet. It was renamed in memory of two long-time members, James Tanos and Theophilos Constantinidis, both of whom have passed away. This year the chapter also honored Gregory D. Vlassopoulos, another long-time member who died earlier this year. His family attended the meet for the recognition of his years of service to Greek youth programs.
Bronze, silver and gold medals were presented to athletes after each event. A formal ceremony to recognize the winning teams will be held later this fall.
