Greek Community Welcomes 2014

Upper Darby, PA. The countdown hit zero and the room exploded. Streamers flew overhead, glasses clinked, and the first cheers of the New Year echoed through St. Demetrios Church.

More than 500 people had packed the hall for the 27th annual New Year’s Eve dance. For hours, the floor never emptied. Families, friends, and neighbors moved in circles, pulling each other into the music.

Atlantis of Philadelphia set the tone, filling the room with the sound of home. Kostas Poutakis played the lyra with a steady hand. George Manouidakis on clarina and Sideris Andrianos singing Demotika kept the energy high until the very last song.

By the time the night ended, 2024 had already begun, and everyone left with that familiar mix of tired feet, full hearts, and a promise to be back next year.
