Three Hierarchs Celebrated – Video Highlights

Upper Darby, PA. Three Hierarchs and Greek Letters Day was celebrated at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church on Sunday. Greek Orthodox parishes from across the Philadelphia metropolitan area came together for the event, now in its seventh year.

The celebration honors three Holy Hierarchs — Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian, and John Chrysostom. These early church leaders were pivotal in shaping Christian theology and are remembered for their defense of education and the Greek language. In Orthodox tradition, they are closely linked to the preservation and promotion of Greek letters, which is why their feast day is also a celebration of learning.

Children from 13 Greek schools in the metropolitan area took part, reciting poems, singing, and performing regional dances from Greece. The day ended with a group photo alongside His Eminence, Metropolitan Evangelos of New Jersey.
