Mr. PGBL’s Corner

Sixers 91 vs. Revolution 69

Does anybody have a fire extinguisher? Because Tony Grammenos’ right hand is on FIRE!!! Tony is one of the best players in PGBL history, and he showed us why tonight. I heard he hasn’t touched a basketball in months, but that didn’t stop him from nailing 9 three pointers en route to a game high 32 points! Any offensive issues the Sixers had in the past are now history. Former league MVP Jim Armenakis was big as well, scoring 26 points from inside, doing a great job drawing fouls and getting to the free throw line. Vas Rousseas was definitely a huge factor in this game scoring 20 points on 6 three pointers, but it was his stifling defense and energy that stood out. Great job by the Sixers as they look ahead to a huge matchup against the streaking Wolfpack. Will the Sixers be able to end the Pack’s winning streak? Stay tuned

Well the Rev kept it close for the first half but had no answer for Grammenos and company in the 2nd. The Rev have heart, great leadership in John Skordos, great shooters and hustle players. The future is bright if they can add a piece or 2. They aren’t far from being a contender. Pete Kada led the team with 19 tonight but it was far from enough. Looking forward to seeing the Rev come back better and stronger next year!

Game Ball: Tony “the shirtless sniper” Grammenos

Did you notice? It was raining 3’s tonight. Vas Rousseas and Tony Grammenos combined for 15 threes!

Kings 74 vs. Rip City 65

The Kings started this game colder that the icy roads outside, but warmed up in the second half. The star of the game was Foti Giannopoulos who poured in 31 points from every single spot on the floor, including the free throw line where he was 11 for 12. When the Kings needed energy and offense, Foti was the provider. The second half began with the Kings trailing by 9, but Bill Zonios was the catalyst for a big Kings run to take the lead. Zonios shot poorly in the first half but scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half. Chris Kourelias was also key for the boys in purple scoring 10 points in the second half and hitting some acrobatic layups. Great job and great comeback by the Kings. Danny’s Boys await.

Rip City is a young, scrappy team that will bow down to nobody. When you have players like Stef Grigorakakis (15pts), Pete Kyriakodis (16pts) and George Mashas (14pts), you will always be in the game. The hustle of these guys is tremendous. Relentless on the defensive end and working together offensively. The Blazers started the game hot, taking an early lead and forcing the Kings to call early timeouts. At one point Rip City led this game by double digits, but a second half run by the Kings was hard to overcome, once they lost the lead, they wouldn’t get it back. Much like the Rev, Rip City isn’t far from contending for a title. Just a player or 2 away.

Game Ball: Foti Giannopoulos.

Did you notice? The Kings scored only 24 points in the 1st half, but heated up for 50 points in the 2nd.
