Upper Darby, PA – On Thursday night, the Greek-American community witnessed a remarkable performance by two very talented teams. The Wolfpack and Danny’s Boys met up to close the season out, in a thrilling championship. In what started out to be a runaway by the Wolfpack in the first half, turned out to be a triumphant comeback victory for Danny’s Boys.

The evening started with an all-star game between the selected players of the league. The hot spanakopita was flying out the bar to fans while Bill Zonios, one of the league commissioners was giving us, play by play commentary. In the background, a local DJ added in music and sound effects keeping the audience entertained.

The teams came out shaking hands and hugging before the game. Once the whistle blew their friendships were put aside and the game began. Both Danny Boy’s and the Wolfpack went right into their game plan. The Wolfpack took control early on and kept the pace and controlled the boards. Danny’s Boys were forced to stay in a perimeter game that they couldn’t connect on, while the Wolfpack managed to dominate at both ends. A box and one defense kept Pete Kathopoulos of Danny’s Boys scoring to a minimum the first half and saw the pack create at 14 point lead that lasted into midway through the first half.

By half time though, Danny’s Boys had closed the lead to just 6 for the Pack. The game had intensified again and the half allowed Danny’s Boys to regroup. When they came out the second half, they looked fresh and confident. It showed right away,as they pounded the boards and started to stick their 3 point shots. You could see that, this was a determined team. Leadership played a big role midway through the second half. Pete Kathopoulos was unstoppable and confident, dropping shot after shot. This boosted the teams belief as they took control. In a matter of minutes, Danny’s Boys had rolled by the pack with a 15 point lead that they would not relinquish. With less than thirty seconds left in the game, the whistle blew, and the champs embraces. Final score: Danny Boy’s 99, Wolfpack 85.
