Hats Off to the Champs: Tune Squad Wins PGBL Summer Tournament
Upper Darby, PA — Congratulations to the new champions of the PGBL Summer Tournament: Tune Squad. Led by local rising star Niko Balis — who suited up for the Wolfpack during the regular season — the squad powered through a tough bracket and came out on top. Their path to the title included a thrilling overtime win on Saturday against last year’s champions, The Bridge, which punched their ticket to Sunday’s championship game.
In the finals, Tune Squad faced a determined Trenton EuroStars team. Despite being plagued by injuries and battling fatigue, the EuroStars gave it everything they had. Their relentless effort earned them plenty of respect, even in defeat. Tune Squad held strong, finishing the weekend with a hard-fought win and the summer crown.
A Growing Tournament with Big-City Reach
The competition for the summer title has grown fiercer, drawing teams from across major metro areas. From Lancaster, PA to Brooklyn, NY, and of course Trenton, NJ, the tournament has quickly become a destination for Greek-American basketball talent. This year’s event brought together more than 120 players at Renegades Gym, all competing for the coveted PGBL title in what is now the tournament’s second year.
More than just a weekend of basketball, the event has become a symbol of connection and recognition for Greek-American athletes throughout the region.
Building a Year-Round Legacy
“We want to be a year-round organization,” said John Vasiliou, PGBL co-founder. And that vision is becoming reality. The PGBL brand continues to expand — from its established winter league to a growing slate of summer sports tournaments, including both basketball and golf. Beyond sports, the league is also building a foundation to support those in need within the community.
With momentum building and support growing, the PGBL is solidifying its place as a year-round fixture — uniting Greek-American athletes through competition, camaraderie, and community.
