Cherry Hill, NJ – St. Thomas Greek Orthodox Church was alive with Greek pride this past Thursday as parishioners, teachers, and families gathered to honor OXI Day, a pivotal moment in modern Greek history.
Students of the St. Thomas Greek School stood proudly at the front of the church, reciting poems and singing patriotic songs to honor Greece’s bravery on October 28, 1940. The event commemorates the day Greek Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas said “OXI” (“No”) to Italian dictator Benito Mussolini’s demand to surrender, which led Greece into World War II on its own terms.
Parents and grandparents filled the pews, cameras in hand, capturing the moment as the next generation carried on the legacy of resistance, courage, and national pride.
