The Hellenic Open University (HOU) in its role of promoting Distance Learning and Research in Greece and abroad and in its efforts to bring the Greek Diaspora closer to Greece and the Greek culture, is organizing a series of visits abroad with New York City, a traditional immigration metropolis and host of a vibrant Greek community, as its first stop.
The HOU delegation consists of the Vice President of HOU Professor Fragiskos Kolisis, the Dean of the School of Humanities Professor Byron Kaldis and the Director of the Laboratory of Educational Material and Teaching Methodology Associate Professor Vassilios Verykios.
The HOU officials will be visiting various university programs in Greek Studies in the New York and Philadelphia areas, will be meeting with professors of Classics and Greek History and Culture as well as with technical experts in online courses. They will also be contacting key players and institutions of the Greek Diaspora such as the Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater NY and the World Council of Cretans.
The highlight of the visit of the HOU delegation is the open event organized at the Stathakion Center of the Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York on Thursday, November 12, 2015 (6:00 pm) on 22-51 29th Street in Astoria. The choice of venue and the event’s main theme echoes HOU’s policy of opening up to the American and the Greek-American public as a first step in promoting its novel English-language distance learning Course “Studies in Greek Civilization” to the Greek Diaspora and to English-speaking people across the world.
HOU, the third largest university in Greece, is the only Greek university providing Distance Education since 1998, and offering a great variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programs leading up to degrees equivalent with the other Greek Universities.
