Upper Darby, PA – St. Demetrios hosted Holy Trinity of Egg Harbor Twp. on Sunday for GOYA league action. “It’s no easy win any week” said Coach Louie Karapanagiotidis of the St. Demetrios boys team following the boys win. St. Demetrios took home their third W that kept them in 1st place in the DVGOBL. A series of key foul shots late in the game was the difference. St. Demetrios made 5 of 7 in the last two minutes and controlled the boards on defense much of the game. St. Demetrios lead by as much as 7 in the first half, but the fast paced Holy Trinity offense kept the pressure on in the third quarter pulling within a bucket, and then within one point. George Karidas of St. Demetrios stuck a late key three pointer to keep St. Demetrios ahead by three in the final minutes. From that point on, Holy Trinity forced St. Demetrios to the foul line where they clinch their third victory, remaining undefeated.

The Holy Trinity (EGT) girls continue on their perfect season with a route of the St. Demetrios girls team. Trinity jumped out to a 8-0 run early in the first quarter and never looked back. They increased their lead to 12-4 in the second quarter and continued to dominate. “The team played well, I’m very proud of the way they are playing.” said coach George Efstatos of Trinity. “We’ve improved dramatically from last year, by being able to penetrate and distribute the ball better” he added.
