Upper Darby, PA – Sunday nights can be as entertaining as the famed “Thursday Nights” at the Philadelphia Greek Basketball league. The long holiday break was good for the Warriors, who came out in good spirits. As fans looked on, they trumped the favorites, Danny’s Boys. Proving again, on any night, anyone can win.

Warriors 76 vs. Danny’s Boys 69

The Warriors are maturing and it shows on the basketball court. This was, and still is, a young team but the several years they have playing together has produced a sense of trust among the players. With trust comes the positive energy and team spirit, and all that was on display tonight. The Warriors were led by Nick Karalis who had one of his best individual performances of the season, scoring 24 points, 13 of those in the second half to keep Danny’s Boys at a distance. Will Galiatsatos scored 19 points, getting hot from outside in the first half with 4 three pointers. But this was an all around team win. The Warriors scrapped for rebounds and loose balls, used their bench for the dirty work and relied on the scorers to handle their job. Great win for the Dubs!

Danny’s Boys looked a little off last night and I bet I know why. Too many Greek Holiday cookies over the Christmas break. Sometimes these long breaks can get the best of us, making a return to the court difficult with a tired sluggish feeling. But I think they’ll be ready from here on out. Pete Kathopoulis led the team with 25 points tonight, but didn’t shoot his usual 50 plus percentage from the field. He struggled to find his rhythm, as did the rest of DB. They trailed by 15 points at one point but managed to make a comeback thanks to the hustle of Alexi Topalidis (10pts) and the offense of Kosta Nikolos (14pts). Here’s the most interesting part of this game’s result..these 2 teams are on a collision course for each other in the first round of the playoffs. If the playoffs started today, it would be Danny’s Boys vs. Warriors in the 3vs6 seed matchup! Game ball: Nick Karalis.
