Journey Through Smyrna will be making its North American premiere at the 2016 New York City Greek Film Festival on October 2, 2016, at 4 pm. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Chrysovalantis Stamelos and producer Georgia Papadopoulou.
The documentary feature film tells the story of the first-ever major concert of Smyrneika to take place on the waterfront of the historical city of Smyrna (today Izmir, Turkey). Ninety-three years after the destruction of Smyrna, Greek, and Turkish musicians form the group NeaBanda, determined to perform the soulful Smyrneika songs on the streets and quay of Smyrna, today’s Izmir. This new documentary by the director of HELLO ANATOLIA records the emotional journey that brought the original music of Asia Minor back to its homeland.
