Philadelphia, PA – Parishioners of St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church in Broomall celebrated their 50th anniversary this past weekend with an event at the Hilton on City Line Avenue.
The evening began after a cocktail hour, with remarks from Rev. Fr. Christ Kontos, then–parish president Susan Pilidis, and Jubilee chair Alexis Bove, setting the tone for a night centered on community and continuity.
His Eminence Metropolitan Evangelos of New Jersey spoke about the strength of the parish before inviting the children in attendance to gather at the center of the ballroom. The gesture was simple but clear. The future of St. Luke, he said, rests with them.
Dinner followed alongside a performance by Atlantis of Philadelphia, and a video presentation that looked back at the parish’s history through the voices of its members. Their reflections moved between memory and expectation, what the church has been and what it continues to become.
St. Luke’s roots go back to 1962, when ground was first broken for the church. Today, the parish has grown to nearly 750 families. Ongoing expansion, along with events like the annual “Greek Affair” festival, has helped establish St. Luke as one of the more active communities in the New Jersey Metropolis, which now comprises 13 parishes.
