Maria Likos, 68, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at her house in Broomall surrounded by her family, after a long battle with Cortical Basal Degeneration.

Maria was a devoted wife to Stamatis for over 40 years, a loving mother to Amy (Naso) Stoios, Andrea (Kevin) Krick and Stephen and an adoring grandmother to Katerina and Lucas Stoios and Christos and Stamatina Krick.

She was born in Cyprus on July 2, 1948, and was one of four siblings, including her twin sister with whom she shared a special bond that transcended distance and time.

Before her diagnosis, Maria worked as a dental assistant at a local practice for years. Before that, she worked as a Greek School teacher and hosted her own program on a local Greek radio station.

She was warm and loving and made friends wherever she went. She loved people and flowers and music and was an avid movie goer for years, falling in love with the actors on the screen and joking that she had a “heart like an artichoke” because her “crush” would always change.

As Greek immigrants in the US, Maria and her husband opened their home to many Greek and Cypriot students studying in Philadelphia and had made life-long friends because of their warmth and hospitality.

More than anything, Maria loved her family fiercely. A stay-at-home mom for years, she raised her children to be kind, generous, loving and fair, always taking a balanced view on things- one of her most admirable (and irritating) qualities.

Her laugh and her smile would fill up a room, and she will be missed dearly every day by friends and family far and near.

Instead of flowers, please send donations to CurePSP.
