Upper Darby, PA – The Federation of Hellenic American Societies of Philadelphia and Greater Delaware hosted its final meeting before the Greek Independence Day parade yesterday.

Final details for the week-long events were confirmed. The Evzones, Greece’s Presidential Guard were the topic of much of the discussion throughout the evening.

The raising of the flag ceremony on Friday at Philadelphia City Hall will again be highlighted by the presence of the Evzones.

Besides dignitaries and leaders of the Greek community have been scheduled to appear and speak at this year’s event.

The Federation has done some additional advertisements of this event. They hope to have a larger appearance by the general public.

The evening was hosted again at the Pontian Clubhouse in Upper Darby, where it appears the Federation has found a home. Effie Pavlidou-Economou, president of the Akritai, and her staff served up traditional Greek food that has come to be well known.
