St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, Upper Darby, PA – November 26, 2012
The battle for first place in the Greek Orthodox Youth Basketball League took center stage as Evangelismos of Bustleton Avenue (Philadelphia) faced off against Holy Trinity of Egg Harbor. With both the girls’ and boys’ teams tied at the top of the standings, the gym was buzzing with energy for this much-anticipated doubleheader.

GIRLS GAME
Heading into Week 8, two top-tier teams were on a collision course. Holy Trinity—experienced and well-coached—took on the physically dominant “Big Girls from the Boulevard” of Evangelismos. It was a close, hard-fought game marked by shifting momentum and clutch plays. In the end, it was Holy Trinity’s steady defense and a couple of timely three-pointers that made the difference.

Final Score: 22–17 (Holy Trinity – Egg Harbor)

BOYS GAME
The boys’ game was just as intense, with both teams entering the matchup tied for the league lead. Evangelismos had history on their side, having beaten Holy Trinity in their last three meetings—including last year’s playoffs.

The first half saw evenly matched play, but by late in the second quarter, Evangelismos pulled away with a commanding 20-point lead. Though Holy Trinity mounted a brief third-period comeback, Evangelismos maintained control through aggressive rebounding and tight defense. It was a statement win that gave them sole possession of first place—and perhaps signaled that they’re the team to beat this season.

Final Score: 47–37 (Evangelismos – Bustleton)
