BROOKLINE, Mass. — The Order of AHEPA announced $250,000 in scholarship support for seminarians at Hellenic College Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology during the school’s observance of the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross on September 14.
According to AHEPA, the scholarships are being supported through the AHEPA Educational Foundation, including funds raised by Supreme President E. Chris Kaitson, and through the John George Tsitsos Scholarship Fund.
Supreme Secretary Themistocles P. Frangos represented Kaitson at the Brookline ceremony. He was joined by Supreme Governor Gregory C. Simones and AHEPA Board of Trustees Secretary Alex G. Geourntas.
Archbishop Elpidophoros of America was also at Hellenic College Holy Cross for the Feast Day observances. According to AHEPA, he spoke during the scholarship ceremony about the organization’s support for education and its relationship with the school.
AHEPA describes its Educational Foundation as its “primary means” of philanthropic support for education and says its scholarship programs are intended to “alleviate the significant financial burden faced by today’s students.”
Kaitson linked the scholarships to AHEPA’s relationship with clergy serving Greek Orthodox communities.
“We look forward to continuing the incredible work of this program which actively builds bridges between AHEPA and the clergy who serve as pillars in our Hellenic communities,” Kaitson said. “In this regard, our partnership with Holy Cross is truly one-of-a-kind, allowing us to support our faith, our culture and our future all through the ‘E’ in AHEPA.”
The John George Tsitsos Scholarship Fund was established by AHEPA Foundation Inc. in 2024 following a $17.3 million anonymous gift. The fund was created to provide scholarships and grants for students of Greek ancestry pursuing advanced study and research.
A further $2.5 million contribution from the Tsitsos family was received in late 2025. AHEPA said in January that the additional gift brought the endowment’s value to more than $20 million.
Current AHEPA scholarship materials say the Tsitsos Fund can cover all or part of annual tuition expenses for selected postgraduate students and support research programs. Seminarian studies at Hellenic College Holy Cross are also included among the areas eligible for support.
