Angelos Efstathios Stamatogianis, a longtime New Jersey restaurateur whose Oyster Bay Restaurant served the Forked River community for 25 years, passed away in his sleep on July 23, 2026. He was 91.
Angelo was born on July 13, 1935, in the village of Drymona, Greece. He lost both parents as a young boy and was raised by his older sister, Foteini. Along with their brother, George, the three siblings relied closely on one another during those early years.
He immigrated to the United States in 1965 and married Irene Naris on June 18, 1967. They shared nearly 58 years of marriage before Irene passed away in May 2025.
For 25 years, Angelo and Irene owned and operated the Oyster Bay Restaurant in Forked River, New Jersey. It became a familiar gathering place where families and friends came together for meals, celebrations, and important occasions. His family remembered his generosity as a reflection of the kindness he had received during his own difficult childhood.
Angelo later returned to Greece, where he continued with several business ventures. He and Irene returned to New Jersey in 2023. After her passing, he moved to Florida to be near his brother, George, who cared for him during the final period of his life.
Angelos was predeceased by his wife, Irene, and his sister, Foteini.
He is survived by his brother, George, and sister-in-law, Angeliki; his nieces and nephews Steven and Robin, Margaret and John, Athanasios and Liane, and Efstathios and Madison; and their children, George, Konstantine, Angelina, Athena, Christian, Lauren and Konstantina.
He is also remembered by Irene’s nieces and nephews and their children, his extended family, and his close friends Cathy and Jim.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 1, at 10:00 am at Saint Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, 2200 Church Road in Toms River. Burial will follow at 11:30 am at Ocean County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Barbara Greek Orthodox Church.
