Annunciation/Evangelismos Greek Orthodox Church in Elkins Park has opened registration for its 2026-2027 Adult Greek Language and Culture Classes.

The program will be offered virtually through Zoom, with classes beginning during the first week of September 2026. It is open to adults at several levels, from students with no prior knowledge of Greek to advanced learners working on fluency, culture, history, and Ellinomatheia preparation.

The classes will be taught by Dimitra Afthinou-Spilioti. Students who are unsure of their level may contact the instructor at dimafth@gmail.com.

The available levels are Beginner I, Progressive Beginner, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate I, and Advanced. Beginner I is intended for students with no knowledge of Greek. Progressive Beginner is for students who can already read and write at a basic level. Pre-Intermediate students will continue developing grammar, syntax, writing, and communication skills.

Intermediate I students will work with the Ellinomatheia A1 and A2 curriculum, while Advanced students will work with the B1 and B2 curriculum. Ellinomatheia, known as the Certificate of Attainment in Greek, is the only Greek language proficiency certificate offered and recognized by the Greek state.

The class schedule is:

  • Beginner I: Mondays at 5:00 p.m.
  • Progressive Beginner: Mondays at 6:30 p.m.
  • Pre-Intermediate: Thursdays at 6:00 p.m.
  • Intermediate I: Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m.
  • Advanced: Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m.

Tuition is $600, with books extra. Each class requires five students to form. Classes will be offered only if fully enrolled by August 15, 2026. Once a class is formed, students will receive an email notification with a payment link.
