May 26, 2013. Elkins Park. Pa. – If you went out looking for a Greek Festival this weekend in the Philadelphia area, you didn’t have to look any further than the historic Greek community – Annunciation Greek Orthodox church of Elkins Park. A cold and blustery forecasted Memorial Day weekend couldn’t keep the croweds away. Under the big white tent and around the side of the church, the party went on for 4 days.

Smiling faces, enthusiastic workers, great food and dancers made this the place to be. On Saturday night, Cosmos Philly visited the famed “OPA” festivities and found lines wrapped around the sides of the church. Although we waited a few minutes to sample the food, it was all worth while and our senses were all well provided for.

Local and regional dancers performed through out the evening, while the “OPA band” played Greek folk music all night long.

As we worked our way through the crowed, we tried a little of this and a lot of that. From Tsipouro to Galaktoborikou to Pastitsio our palette and senses went wild as we joined in the fun. Rides for the kids in the church parking lot and Byzantine church tours rounded out the weekend attractions.

Congratulations to the folks at Annunciation Greek Orthodox church for their excellent service and effort.
