Philadelphia, PA – The aromas of Greek food filled the air around the old city this weekend. St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral hosted its annual Greek Festival. The parking lot of the Cathedral filled with happy guests and parishioners who mingled, shared a meal and danced to live music. “The sweets are the best, and we make them right here,” said one parishioner.
The annual spring ritual has been hosted since 1974 and continues to be the key fundraiser for the historic Greek Revival style church. Greektown started here in this neighborhood more than a century ago, when Greeks arrived as immigrants. A few shops and business continue to maintain a presence.
