A cultural event dedicated to Olympism and the legacy of Kostis Palamas will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at St. Demetrios School in Astoria, New York.
The event, titled “Olympic Ideals, Olympic Hymn, Kostis Palamas, Everlasting Light,” will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the school’s “Petros G. Patridis” Hall.
Professor Dr. Theodore Mallias will serve as the speaker. The program will focus on the Olympic ideals, the Olympic Hymn, and the legacy of Palamas, the Greek poet whose words became part of the modern Olympic tradition.
The evening will also include a presentation connected to the International Peace Marathon “Kostis Palamas,” along with Olympic education activities, a torch-themed program for the younger generation, and an art exhibition with the donation of paintings to Greek-American schools. The exhibition is scheduled to run from June 1 through June 7, 2026.
The event is held under the auspices of the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy, with the support of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. It is organized by the Fine Arts Society and the Culture and Olympism Center “Kostis Palamas,” with support from the Patras Association of New York “Kostis Palamas,” the Hellenic Canadian Congress, and related Hellenic organizations.
