Catherine V. Loupos, a beloved sister, aunt, and devoted educator, passed away peacefully in Freehold, NJ, on October 2, 2025, at the age of 87.
Born on December 30, 1937, in Newark, New Jersey, to Helen and Anthony Basil Loupos, Catherine grew up in West Orange and East Orange before settling in Freehold in 1988, where she made her home for the past several decades.
As an elementary school teacher with the South Plainfield Board of Education, Catherine inspired countless students throughout her career. Her love of learning and commitment to her pupils left a lasting mark on the community and the many lives she touched.
A faithful member of St. Barbara’s Greek Orthodox Church, Catherine’s spirituality and devotion were central to her life. She was also a loving and devoted caregiver to her mother, Helen, until her passing in 2012.
Catherine will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and deep affection for her family. She especially loved spending time with her nieces and nephews, treating them to shopping trips and seaside days at Manasquan Beach. A lifelong learner, she had a deep curiosity for history and a particular fascination with Egyptian architecture. She was an avid reader and often listened to audiobooks during long drives, always seeking new stories and ideas.
She is survived by her brother William Loupos; nieces Kristine Hollywood (and her husband Ed) and Nicole Panico (and her husband Lou); nephews Anthony M. Loupos (and his wife Annie), Chris Loupos, and Michael Loupos (and his partner Molly). She is also lovingly remembered by her great-nephews Anthony W. Loupos, Jackson Panico, and Jace Loupos; great-nieces Emma Hollywood, Katharine Hollywood, and Alison Panico; and by her sister-in-law Amelia Percy and her husband Dale.
Catherine Loupos will be deeply missed by all who knew her and forever remembered for her kindness, faith, and devotion to family.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church Road, Toms River, NJ.
Graveside burial will take place on Monday, October 13, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at Ocean County Memorial Park, 1722 Silverton Road, Toms River, NJ.
