Newtown Square, PA – The community of Newtown Square is mourning the unexpected passing of Dr. George Maalouf, a dedicated pharmacist and community leader who passed away on June 10, 2024. Dr. Maalouf, aged 68, was beloved by his family, friends, and the community for his unwavering commitment to his profession, church, and volunteer work.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, on February 7, 1956, Dr. Maalouf displayed a passion for science from a young age. After graduating from Fort Hamilton High School in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical Science from St. John’s University in Jamaica, New York. He went on to have a distinguished career in clinical and retail pharmacy, spanning more than 40 years.

Relocating with his family from Brooklyn to Broomall and eventually settling in Newtown Square in 1993, Dr. Maalouf was known for his dedicated service to the community. He was particularly proud of earning his PharmD doctoral degree from Shenandoah University in 2023, a testament to his lifelong commitment to education and excellence in his field.

In addition to his contributions to the field of pharmacy, Dr. Maalouf was actively involved in various communities. In addition to his contributions to the field of pharmacy, Dr. Maalouf actively participated in various community organizations, including serving on the board and as President of the Parish Council at St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church. He was also a dedicated American Hellenic Education Progressive Association (AHEPA) member and volunteered for the Delaware County Medical Reserve Corps.

Dr. Maalouf will be remembered for his love of family, dedication to his church, and commitment to serving others. His zest for life extended to simple pleasures such as grilling and enjoying a cigar with friends at the Wooden Indian tobacco shop and passionately supporting the Eagles during football season.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Zoe; his children Anthony, Marcus (Laura), and Nawal (Rachel); his sister, Denise (Brian) Tepper; and numerous beloved cousins.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church on Friday, June 14, 2024. A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, followed by a funeral service at noon. The interment will take place at Glenwood Memorial Gardens in Broomall, PA.

In honor of Dr. Maalouf’s life, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church.

Dr. George Maalouf will be deeply missed by the Newtown Square community and beyond, leaving a legacy of compassion, dedication, and service.
