The Society of Epirotes of Philadelphia “Omonia” sponsored a Vasilopita cutting at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral following church. The patron saint of Ioannina in Epirus, Greece, “Agios Georgios of Ioannina,” was also recognized during the service, before the blessed of the Vasilopita.

At the end of the service, the church members receded to the hall for coffee and Vasilopita. This was followed by the first general assembly of the year by the chapter members of “Omonia,” Epirotes of Philadelphia. There, the “Tsipourovrathia” became the main order of discussion scheduled for March 2nd, 2019 at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox church.

Started in 1938 this organization was established in the Delaware Valley from Ioannina, Epirus, Greece where it’s members hail from. The meeting concluded with the annual Vasilopita cutting. This longtime tradition has been part of the chapter history for many years. During this annual tradition, a Greek lyra is awarded. Gianna Kravaris had the good fortune of finding the Lyra this year.
