George Psihalinos, the founder of Nick’s Pizzeria and a pillar of the Greek-American community, passed away peacefully at home on February 17, 2025, at the age of 86. Surrounded by his loving family, he left behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, and community spirit.

Born in Athens, Greece, in September 1938 to Athanasios and Fani Psihalinos, Psihalinos developed a deep-rooted sense of family and perseverance from an early age. He grew up alongside his brother Theodore, developing a strong sense of family and responsibility. In 1969, he immigrated to the United States in pursuit of a better future, facing the challenges many newcomers experience while working to build a stable life. Starting with jobs at a Marlboro machine shop and later the Heinz factory, he worked tirelessly, saving every penny with the dream of one day running his own business.

In 1976, Psihalinos founded Nick’s Pizzeria in South Jersey. What started as a small family-run eatery grew into a successful multi-location business, known for its commitment to quality and community service. Nick’s Pizzeria quickly became a beloved fixture in the community, providing jobs to locals and creating a welcoming space for generations of customers. His sons have since taken over operations, continuing the family-run business.

Psihalinos was married to Athina (Siskopoulou) Psihalinos for 53 years. Together, they raised three sons: Athanasios (with his wife, Magdalini), Nicholas (with his wife, Aristea), and Demetrios (with his wife, Anthoula). He is also survived by eight grandchildren.

A dedicated member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Wilmington, Delaware, Psihalinos played an active role in preserving and celebrating Greek heritage within the community. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to the church.

Psihalinos is remembered for his dedication to his family, his work ethic, and his contributions to the local business and Greek-American communities. ‘My father built something special with Nick’s Pizzeria. It was never just about the food—it was about family and community,’ said his son Nicholas.
