Georgia Akranis, 88, passed away peacefully on November 8th, 2025.

Preceded in death by her husband, Zafeiris Akranis, and survived by her son Odysseas and daughter-in-law Mela, Grandchildren Zafeiris (Gurjit), Georgia, and Niko (Zoe), and great-grandchildren Odysseas and Pandora. Beloved mama, yiayia, and “big yiayia”.

Born in Koukos, Pieria, Greece, on February 10th, 1937. She married Zafeiri Akrani and had a wonderful 42-year life with him. In the 60s, they emigrated to Nuremberg, Germany, where they had a successful restaurant business. They moved back to Greece in 1969 and made Thessaloniki their beloved home.

Later in life, after her only child, Odysseas, moved to the USA and married, she took on her most prized role as a yiayia, caring deeply for and helping to raise her precious grandchildren, Zafeiris, Georgia, and Niko, whom she adored and who were her life. She was an amazing cook who always ensured her family and grandchildren stayed well-fed.

Family and friends are invited to the viewing on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 10 am to 11 am at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 229 Powell Lane, Upper Darby, PA 19082. Her funeral service will begin promptly at 11 am. Interment to follow at Fernwood Cemetery, 6501 E. Baltimore Ave., Landsdowne, PA 19050.
