Upper Darby, PA – They did it again. Holy Trinity of Egg Harbor and Annunciation of Elkins Park repeated their victory marches to the championship and brought it home in consecutive years. In fact, Elkins Park threepeted. Three straight years now they’ve taken home the boys championship.

The bar was serving hot food all afternoon at St. Demetrios while the Greek community packed the gym to watch some great basketball. The consolation games kicked off the final afternoon of league play.

The championship featured St. Thomas of Cherry Hill vs. Holy Trinity of Egg Harbor. Cherry Hill came in as the number one seed, having beat Holy Trinity earlier this year on their home turf. But no matter, Holy Trinity had experience and excellent coaching on their side, which were key. The two teams exchanged buckets throughout the first quarter, but Holy Trinity pulled away at the end of the half by jumping out to a 5 point lead, 18 to 13.

In the second half, Holy Trinity shut down St. Thomas early on and extended their lead, while keeping St. Thomas to just 4 points in the third quarter. St. Thomas made a run late in the game, hitting several three point shots, but it was not enough. They fell to last years champions Holy Trinity. Final score, Holy Trinity 35, St. Thomas 29.

After a slow start which saw no scoring for the first two and half minutes, both Annunciation and Holy Trinity boys teams settled down into their games. Unfortunately for Holy Trinity, they were not able to slow down or take Elkins Park out of their fast paced offense. Annunciation jumped out to a 16-3 lead and controlled the boards throughout the game. They were clearly in command and had a balanced offensive attack. At times, they overwhelmed Holy Trinity and proved again why this team will gone down as one of the best in DVGBL history. Final score, Annunciation 61, Holy Trinity 48.
