Washington, DC – Yesterday at the Pentagon, Defense Secretary Ash Carter presented three heroes with medals commensurate for their valor for thwarting a terrorist on a train in France last month. Airman 1st Class Spencer Stone received the Purple Heart and the Airman’s Medal, while Army Spc. Alek Skarlatos, of the Oregon National Guard, received the Soldier’s Medal for non-combat heroism. Their friend, Anthony Sadler, received a defense civilian award, the Secretary of Defense Medal for Valor. The three men, were among a small group of passengers that subdued Moroccan Ayoub El-Khazzani, 26, who opened fire on a Paris-bound train in late August.

Basil Mossaidis of the AHEPA, represented Supreme President John Galanis at the event as a guest of Senator Wyden of Oregon. “I was proud to represent Ahepa and the Greek American community during this special event honoring these young men who clearly embody all the virtue of all Americans.”
